Encompass Insurance to Sponsor Tampa Tournament – PGATOUR.COM
The Champions Tour announced Friday that Encompass Insurance will become the title sponsor of the Champions Tour celebritypro-am event.
The tournament, held in the Tampa area since 1988, will acquire a new name — the Encompass Insurance Pro-Am of Tampa Bay and will be played at the TPC Tampa Bay in Lutz on April 9-15. The tournament will continue the pro-am format, fan interaction programs, and offer first-class hospitality to the spectators in the Tampa Bay community.
The multi-year agreement gives Encompass the opportunity to sponsor not only this year’s event, but also bring the Champions Tour to the Chicago area in 2013 and beyond.
“We’re excited to be the new title sponsor of such a prestigious tournament,” said Encompass president Tom Ealy. “The Tampa Bay Champions Tour event has a great history of benefiting the community, and we plan to continue that tradition. It not only combines elite golf with interesting personalities who draw great crowds, but it also gives us a terrific way to bring people together for good causes.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Encompass Insurance into the Champions Tour family,” said Champions Tour President Mike Stevens. “Our players set a wonderful example interacting with our sponsors and the celebrities during the tournament and we trust the Encompass Insurance independent agents will enjoy this unique and unparalleled experience.”
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the tournament, which was won by John Cook in a playoff over Jay Don Blake last year. Five of the last seven winners of the Champions Tour event in Tampa Bay are World Golf Hall of Fame members. The celebrities scheduled to participate in 2012 include Ronde Barber, Joe Theismann, Derrick Brooks, Phil Esposito, John O’Hurley, Stone Phillips and Craig T. Nelson.
“We look forward to working with Encompass Insurance to showcase our unique brand of hospitality and continue our legacy of charitable giving through the 25th anniversary of the tournament,” said Chris Sullivan, 2012 tournament co-chairman.
